ISCN Podcast #11: Interopera..What? The EU’s European Interoperability Framework for Smart Cities and Communities (EIF4SCC)

Part two of ISCN’s 2023 Podcast Series on “What’s new in international urban data governance?” is out! We spoke to Eddy Hartog, Head of Unit “Technologies for Smart Communities” at the European Commission, about the latest developments around urban data and beyond border technology – with a specific focus on the interoperability of data-driven and digital solutions.
In their conversation, they discussed a new framework: The so-called European Interoperability Framework for Smart Cities and Communities (EIF4SCC). Interoperability, easy replication as well as scalability of digital solutions is still a topic that is hard to solve in the smart city world. The EIF4SCC provides pointers on how to achieve interoperability – and not just from the technical side, but also from cultural and organisational perspectives. EIF4SCC is part of a recent proposal by the European Commission: The Interoperable Europe Act.
