Paragraphs

In the years 2019, 2020 and 2021, in total 73 pilot projects were selected for funding from the German Smart Cities funding programme, with municipalities ranging from small towns to the biggest cities in Germany. A fundamental requirement for receiving funding up to 15 million Euros was that digital solutions would have to be implemented to drive sustainable urban development. The funded digital solutions would have to be open source, scalable and transferable, ensuring that all outcomes will enhance dissemination and scaling throughout Germany and Europe. As the majority of selected projects is still in their implementation phase, the session serves to present the first prototypical solutions, process achievements and milestones of the national programme.

Concurrently, within the funded "Smarte.Land.Regionen" (smart rural regions) initiative, an online marketplace has been established. This marketplace, is endorsed by political stakeholders and aims to offer solutions and advice on digital public services for smart cities and smart regions.
