The ISCN sourced from its network a practical smart city challenge and 8 universities and their student courses from 5 countries and 3 continents responded with more than 40 ideas! The challenge revolved around conceptualizing data reuse to enhance insights stemming from citizen-reporting tools.

The ISCN hosted a first Franco-German exchange on AI usage specifically in urban development. As a side event on the Smart Country Convention 2025 in Berlin, it brought together many experts and practitioners for knowledge exchange, networking and conceptual alignment.

In this ISCN Global Mixer looked at how the city of Ingolstadt managed to turbocharge their publication of Open Data through AI. Over 200 government datasets are now openly accessible there, thanks to an AI-driven approach that boosts transparency, resource efficiency, and compliance with the EU Directive on High-Value Datasets.

In this session of the ISCN Global Mixer we looked at research from the SmartCity Living Lab of DFKI, the German Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence, that demonstrates the potential of data-driven urban solutions, highlighting benefits for municipalities and remaining hurdles.

Join us for an inspiring international exchange on how AI is shaping the future of smart cities and urban development in a common good-oriented manner – with insights drawn from Germany’s “Model Projects Smart City” programme and other initiatives, as well as projects on urban AI in France.

The city of Leipzig has established with its Data Week a “forum for Data and AI enthusiasts”. And it hosted a session with the ISCN and the Namibian town of Lüderitz to discuss how smart city use cases and approaches can be kickstarted globally, even with limited resources.
