The 73 federally funded Model Projects Smart Cities are experimental sites for integrated urban development. The aim of the programme is to enable municipalities in Germany to explore a variety of practical solutions in order to drive forward smart city development in Germany nationwide.
Inspiration and motivation for municipalities on their way to becoming smart cities: With the Start Smart format, the Coordination and Transfer Office Model Projects Smart Cities (KTS) offers a comprehensive, specially created advisory, exchange and information service for non-funded municipalities.
A network thrives on the interaction and exchange of its members. When it "pulsates", new growth emerges at the knowledge and practice level - especially in such a transformational field as smart cities. The International Smart Cities Network (ISCN) has therefore set up several different exchange formats for its participants.
The research of the Federal Institute for Research on Building, Urban Affairs and Spatial Development (BBSR) forms the scientific framework for the work of the National Dialogue Platform Smart Cities and the Model Projects Smart Cities (MPSC). The BBSR also manages the research activities of the Coordination and Transfer Office Model Projects Smart Cities (KTS).
