International Smart Cities Network

The ISCN currently consists of the core member countries Brazil, Germany, India, Mexico and Peru. These are each involved in the network activities at national and municipal level. Through the ISCN, the partner countries have the opportunity to continuously exchange their expertise and experience in the field of smart cities. The constant "learning from each other" should make it possible to jointly shape the digital transformation of cities in terms of sustainable and integrated urban development.

At the invitation of the German and Kenyan governments, the Data-Driven Cities: Conference for the Urban Common Good took place in Kenya on 12 and 13 February 2024. The focus was on the question of how data can be used successfully to promote the urban common good.

International Smart Cities Network Symposium

These were some of the key questions explored at the International Smart Cities Network Symposium during the Smart Country Convention in Berlin on November 8, 2023. The event provided insights and encouraged discussions on the role of smart rural development in both Asia and Europe. Representatives from Germany, South Korea and Thailand, each with unique approaches, shared their experiences, offering a diverse global perspective.

In the International Digital Ideas Competition #SolutionsForCities in 2020, the Institute for Planning and Development Management (IMEPLAN) of the Metropolitan Area of Guadalajara, Mexico, together with the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), Uganda, adapted a digital solution to support local market vendors in selling their products online in times of the Covid-19 Pandemic. The digital solution “Mi Mercado AMG” was awarded “Best Digital Solution for Vibrant Urban & Local Centres”.

Knowledge Transfer

The ISCN's Online Advisory Programme includes demand-driven formats such as international studies, video and podcasts, as well as live streaming events and online meetings with contributions from the international smart city expert community.

Peer-to-peer Learning

Based on the existing and provided knowledge within the ISCN, members can benefit from peer consultations on concrete projects. They can support each other in their strategic planning, incorporate their own experiences into the processes and obtain continuous feedback.

Meeting of the ISCN

To perpetuate partnerships within the ISCN, bi-annual network meetings are held in Germany and ISCN partner countries. These are currently compensated by high-level online symposia that capture the pulse of the international smart city discourse.
